Single-parent families are moreover on the climb. In 2011, 19.3 percent of children developed 14 and under lived with a single parent specifically, up barely from 18 percent in 2001. Of that 19.3 percent, 82 percent live with their mother (Statistics Canada 2012).
Stepparents are an additional family segment in two-parent homes. A stepfamily is described as "two or three families where at any rate one child is the natural or gotten posterity of only one married mate or standard law associate and whose birth or determination went before the current relationship" (Statistics Canada 2012). Among adolescents living in two-parent nuclear families, 10 percent live with a characteristic or new parent and a stepparent (Statistics Canada 2012).
